2006 Amherst Invitational
Published January 16, 2006 by Western Mass Squash | ArticlesAmherst, MA — This weekend Amherst College’s men’s and women’s teams hosted the Amherst Invitational. Smith College, the only other Western Mass team to compete, joined Middlebury, Northeastern, the University of Pennsylvania, and Wesleyan at the tournament.
Amherst’s men’s squash fell to UPenn, the fifth ranked team in the country, by a score of 0-9. Auloke Mathur, the Jeffs’ number two, won the first two games of his match with Lee Rosen, but eventually lost in five games.
The Jeffs’ women’s team also lost to UPenn 0-9. In the team’s second match, Middlebury won by a score of 5-4. Caroline Shannon (#1), Sarah Harper (#2), Emily O’Brien (#3), and Libby Martin (#5) recorded victories for Amherst.
After losing a close match to Wesleyan University by a score of 3-6, Smith College posted its first victory of the season with a 9-0 win over Northeastern. Kate Whitesell (#2), Talia Williams (#3), and Danielle Lee (#9) each recorded victories in each match.
