2006 Seven Sisters Tournament
Published January 23, 2006 by Western Mass Squash | ArticlesHaverford, PA — Over the weekend, Mount Holyoke and Smith College traveled to Haverford, PA to compete in the seventh annual Seven Sisters Championship. They were joined by Wellesley, Vassar, and the host squad, Haverford.
In Smith’s opening match, the fifth-seeded Pioneers upset the top-seeded Haverford Black Squirrels. Jen Recht (#1) came back from 2-7 in the fourth game to beat her Black Squirrel opponent. Smith’s second match was a 1-8 loss to Vassar, the three-time defending Seven Sisters Champion.
Wellesley defeated Smith for the second time this season to open Sunday’s play by a score of 2-7. Smith’s Talia Williams and Jessica McLeod recorded the Pioneers’ victories.
The Mount Holyoke Lyons began the tournament by defeating Haverford 5-4 and Wellesley 9-0. On the second day of the tournament, the Lyons lost to Vassar 2-7. The Lyons rebounded to sweep Western Mass rival Smith by a score of 9-0.
Vassar’s number two player, Katie Siegel, is a Western Mass native. She went undefeated at the tournament and helped the Brewers win their fourth consecutive Seven Sister crown. Siegel joined Mount Holyoke’s Pam Anckermann (#1) and Danielle Babcock (#9) on the Seven Sisters All-Tournament team.
