2009 College Squash Association Individual Championships Results

Williamstown, MA — This weekend, the 2009 College Squash Association Individual Championships were held at Williams College.

In the Men’s Potter Cup (A draw), the finals were a rematch from last week’s team championships. Trinity’s Baset Chaudhry faced Princeton’s Mauricio Sanchez. Once again, Chaudhry won in five games.

In the Potter Cup Consolations Finals, Rochester’s Ben Fisher defeated Trinity’s Andres Vargas.

The Men’s Mallory Cup (B Draw) was filled with Williams College players.  The host school had a strong showing with Ethan Buchsbaum making it to the quarterfinals of the main draw and Jeremy Hermanne making it to the finals of the consolations.

Trinity’s Chris Binnie defeated Western Ontario’s Chris Hanebury in the finals of the Mallory Cup on Sunday.  Brown’s Adrian Leanza won the consolation finals in four games.

Taking advantage of her home courts, Williams’ Toby Eyre made it to the semifinals of the Women’s Ramsay Cup (A Draw) before losing to UPenn’s Kristen Lange.  Nour Bahgat of Trinity defeated Lange in the Ramsay Cup finals. Also in the Ramsay Cup, Mount Holyoke’s Pam Anckermann made it to the consolation semifinals. Two weeks ago, Anckermann won the 2008 – 2009 Betty Richey Award, which is  given annually to the best all around women’s senior collegiate squash player.

In the Women’s Holleran Cup (B draw) semifinals, Mount Holyoke’s Vidushi Gurunada made it to the semifinals before losing to Lexi Van Arkle of Yale. Williams’ Jennifer Coxe defeated Van Arkle to win the cup. Princeton’s Kelly Shannon won the consolations, Cornell’s Alex Cornett won the second consolations, and Dartmouth’s Madeline Lurio won the third consolations.

  1. The match of the tournament was the Potter 2nd round consolation finals between Trinity’s Gustov Detter and Rochester’s Ahmed. They basically traded games with every point containing multiple cries from the crowd of ‘Oh my god, I don’t believe he got that’. Ahmed’s length, touch, nicks and drops was perfect while Detter scrambled for every shot, eventually winning in 5 games. This match should have been taped.
