Poughkeepsie, NY — On Saturday, the fifth annual Hudson Cup  squash tournament was held at Vassar College and the Poughkeepsie Tennis Club. As in past years, the event was a team competition that had A, B, C, and D divisions. Each 12 person team fielded sub-teams of three players for each division.  In 2008, the Simon’s Rock squad narrowly lost the Hudson Cup to Albany.

Simon’s Rock earned the 2009 Hudson Cup with strong showings in each division. The A draw was challenging, but Rich Furman, Chris DiVecchio, and Kevin Guerrero played well. In the B draw, Jim Ladden, Nick Walster, and Ben Quick earned the division title.  In the C draw, Michael Bello, Ron Shaw, and Sara Smyth helped Simon’s Rock by finishing in second place.  In the D draw, Rhonda Lake, Anne Bello, and Juan Diaz won the draw.

For the first time, the Hudson Cup belongs to a non-New York club.  Jim Ladden, the team organizer, put together a great squad for the event.
