New York, NY — The 2009 Tournament of Champions concluded last night. The finals, held at Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Station, featured Gregory Gaultier and Nick Matthew.Â Gaultier prevailed in four games (11-9, 2-11, 11-8, 11-4).

Tournament of Champions – Illingworth to face Lincou

New York, NY — On January 23rd through 29th, the 2009 Tournament of Champions is returning to Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Station.Â The Professional Squash Association (PSA) tournament will feature 23 of the 25 top players in the world. Yale alum and US Champion Julian Illingworth, number 40 in the latest world rankings, received a wild card entry.Â He will face France’s Thierry Lincou in the opening round.

In preparation of the Tournament of Champions, below is a SQWeek.tv video featuring Illingworth. Unfortunately for Illingworth, New Yorkers fail to recognize his fame.Â Perhaps a victory over Lincou would make him a household name.

Tim Bacon Interviewed By Skype About His Coaching Methods

Northampton, MA — Tim Bacon, the Smith College squash coach, is currently recovering from hip surgery.Â At the recent Women’s College Squash Championships, Bacon was able to watch his players live via Skype, an Internet phone and video service. Western Mass — Below is a video about CitySquash, a non-profit after-school enrichment program based at Fordham University in the Bronx, NY.Â Similar to Boston’s SquashBusters, CitySquash has placed academically talented students at many top prep schools, including the Williston Northampton School.

At the 2008 Boyâ€™s New England Interscholastic Squash Championships â€œBâ€ tournament (see photos 33-34, 36-46, 57-58), CitySquash alum and current Avon Old Farms student Alija Hogans lost an extremely close match to Williston Northampton’s Peter Gabranski.
