The event was hosted at three sites across the Pioneer Valley – Smith, Mount Holyoke, and Amherst College – and teams traveled between the locations throughout the weekend. In total, 27 matches were held.

With the latest College Squash Association rankings unveiled prior to the opening of the tournament, the teams were eager to prove the latest poll wrong. The Mount Holyoke Lyons, the highest-ranked team in the event, dominated the tournament going 5-0. The Lyons beat Colby and Hamilton.

Colby, Hamilton, and Tufts are tied for thirteenth in the rankings. Colby defeated Hamilton by a score of 7-2, while Hamilton beat Tufts 6-3. The three teams will most likely be separated in the next team rankings.

Opening play, Wesleyan defeated Franklin & Marshall 7-2. The Diplomats rebounded to beat host Smith 7-2. In the number one match, Smith’s Kate Whitesell defeated Davinia Buckley in three games.

Wellesley defeated Connecticut College 6-3. Williston Northampton alumna and Wellesley number two player Ayako Kubodera lost 0-3 to Cara Flynn. Connecticut lost a nail bitter to Northeastern, 4-5.

To wrap up the tournament, Smith lost to Wesleyan, 8-1. The Pioneers’ number six player, Meg Oliverio, earned her second victory of the day.

The Lyons shutout Northeastern and beat Wesleyan 8-1. The Lyons’ Laura Robinson (#4) and Laurian Lue Yen (#5) went undefeated on the day and together only surrendered five points.

In the only other match of the day at Mount Holyoke, Wellesley defeated Colgate 9-0.

The Lord Jeffs opened with a 7-2 victory over William Smith. Hamilton, the 12th-ranked team in the nation, easily defeated Amherst 8-1. Amherst’s sole individual victory came from Hayley Milbourn at the number three position.

In the other matches at Amherst, Colby defeated Hamilton (7-2) and William Smith (9-0).

Wellesley defeated Northeastern 5-4. The Northeastern defeated Colgate 9-0 and the Hamilton defeated Tufts 6-3.

Mount Holyoke hosted Colgate and emerged with a 7-2 victory. The Lyons’ top five players, Pamela Anckermann, Vidushi Gurunada, Menusha Hettiarachchi, Laurian Leu Yen, and Elizabeth Wright, only dropped a combined four points in the contest.

After the match, Colgate drove across the river to Smith College. In an extremely close contest, the Pioneers lost 4-5. Kate Whitesell, Margaret Oliverio, Kelsey Radwilowicz, and Elizabeth Hughes each recorded victories for Smith. The number two match between Colgate’s Jenny Dorland and Smith’s Sara Smyth went to five games. Dorland emerged with a 10-8 victory in the final game.

Smith also lost to Colby 9-0.
