Williams and Amherst, the two Western Mass members of NESCAC, were well represented on the teams.

For the women, Williams placed three members on the first team, while Amherst placed one player on the second team.

For the men, Williams placed three players on the first team and one player on the second team.  Amherst had one member named to the second team.

…Sanchez had won the first game over Chaudhry before dropping the second and third. He controlled play in the fourth, winning 9-2 and setting up the finale. With hundreds upon hundreds trying to position themselves for the smallest viewing area, Sanchez raced out to a 5-0 edge before Chaudhry took over and won the final nine points of the 2008-09 men’s squash season.

On their home courts, the Princeton Tigers narrowly lost 4-5 to the now eleven time national champions. The New York Times covered the match.

University of Rochester completed its ascension to the upper echelon of the college squash rankings by defeating Harvard by a score of 7-2.

In the Hoehn Cup, Williams lost 4-5 to Western Ontario. The Ephs finished the tournament in 10th place.  Amherst took 16th place after losing to Saint Lawrence.

Fresh off its 200th consecutive victory, Trinity swept Harvard to advance to the Potter Cup finals vs. Princeton. Last weekend, Trinity’s win streak survived with a 5-4 victory over the Tigers.

In the Hoehn Cup, Williams advanced to the finals (9th place match) against Western Ontario. The Ephs beat Franklin & Marshall 7-2 today.

In the Potter Cup, Trinity is seeking its tenth consecutive title.  Yesterday, the New York Times noted the Bantams’ win streak.  Trinity advanced on Friday by sweeping Dartmouth. Sixth-seeded Rochester defeated third-seeded Yale in a 5-4 upset.

In the Hoehn Cup, Western Ontario defeated Amherst by a score of 8-1. The Lord Jeffs’ Jerome Giovinazzo won his team’s sole match. Amherst will square off against Navy on Saturday.  Tenth-seeded Williams swept Saint Lawrence to advance to the semifinals. Tomorrow, the Ephs will attempt to advance to the finals by defeating  Franklin and Marshall.

In the men’s tournament, Amherst finished fourth.   The Lord Jeffs defeated Bowdoin, but lost to Trinity and Bates.  In finishing second, Williams beat Hamilton and Bates.

In the women’s tournament, Williams defeated Amherst and Bowdoin.  The Lord Jeffs lost to Hamilton, but beat Tufts to finish in seventh place.

In women’s action, Williams lost to number-two ranked UPenn by a score of 1-8.  Only the Ephs’ Stephanie Barent defeated a UPenn player.  In the key match of the day, undefeated number ones Kristen Lange (UPenn) and Toby Eyre (Williams) squared off.  Last season, both Lange and Eyre were named First Team All Americans.  Lange defeated Eyre in three games; however, the match was closer than it appeared.

On the men’s side, UPenn shutout Amherst and defeated Williams by a score of 6-3. The Ephs’ William Morris, Will Gruner, and Christian Henze recorded victories.

Both Lord Jeffs squads were looking to rebound from Friday’s shutouts by Yale University.

In the men’s match, the 15th-ranked Amherst squad could not hold off  17th-ranked St. Lawrence. Drew Blacker, Jerome Giovinazzo, and Todd Lavine earned the Lord Jeffs’ victories.  Steve Severson lost a close five-game match to the Saints’ Scott Redpath. Amherst drops to 3-3 on the season.

In the women’s match, the Lord Jeffs emerged with a victory by defeating St. Lawrence by a score of 8-1. Like Severson on the men’s side, Katie Savage played an exciting five-game match that was eventually won by St. Lawrence’s Jennifer Hearn.

The men’s team lost 9-0 to the 10-time national champions, Trinity. At the number six position, Tim Rapisarda won the most points, 14, of any of the Lord Jeffs’ players. The women’s team also lost 9-0. Amherst’s Allie Dalglish won 12 points, while Hayley Milbourn and Melissa Moulton each won 11 points in their matches.

The Lord Jeffs rebounded by defeating Tufts.  The women’s team only need a half an hour to clinch the win.
