Princeton, NJ — On Sunday, the 2009 Men’s National Team Championships concluded. In a six-hour match, Trinity’s 201 match win streak almost ended. With the match tied 4-4, GoPrincetontigers.com reports that Trinity’s Baset Chaudhry and Princeton’s Mauricio Sanchez squared off:

…Sanchez had won the first game over Chaudhry before dropping the second and third. He controlled play in the fourth, winning 9-2 and setting up the finale. With hundreds upon hundreds trying to position themselves for the smallest viewing area, Sanchez raced out to a 5-0 edge before Chaudhry took over and won the final nine points of the 2008-09 men’s squash season.

On their home courts, the Princeton Tigers narrowly lost 4-5 to the now eleven time national champions. The New York Times covered the match.

University of Rochester completed its ascension to the upper echelon of the college squash rankings by defeating Harvard by a score of 7-2.

In the Hoehn Cup, Williams lost 4-5 to Western Ontario. The Ephs finished the tournament in 10th place. Amherst took 16th place after losing to Saint Lawrence.

On the eve of the College Squash Association's 2009 Men's Team National Championships, the New York Times published an article on the Trinity squash team.

New York, NY — On the eve of the College Squash Association’s 2009 Men’s Team National Championships, the New York Times published an article on the Trinity squash team.

The article focuses on the Bantams’ win streak:

The Bantams have not lost a match since a tense afternoon against Harvard on Feb. 22, 1998. The U.C.L.A. men’s basketball team’s 88 consecutive wins and the North Carolina women’s soccer team’s 92-game streak are dwarfed by comparison. As Trinity prepares for its 10th straight national title defense this weekend, beginning with a match against Dartmouth on Friday, the Bantams sit poised for their 200th consecutive victory.

Today, Trinity swept Dartmouth to advance to the semifinals of the Potter Cup.

Update (2/22/2009): 2009 Men’s National Team Championships Wrap Up – Trinity Defeats Princeton

Last season, Anckermann concluded the season ranked 28th in the country. Jennifer Gemmell, Cornell’s current third-ranked player, concluded the 2007-2008 season ranked 29th in the nation. Of last year’s All-Americans (top twenty players in the nation), Anckermann only faced Williams’ Toby Eyre. With strong team and individual tournament performances, Anckermann may earn All-American honors.
