In the men’s tournament, Amherst finished fourth.   The Lord Jeffs defeated Bowdoin, but lost to Trinity and Bates.  In finishing second, Williams beat Hamilton and Bates.

In the women’s tournament, Williams defeated Amherst and Bowdoin.  The Lord Jeffs lost to Hamilton, but beat Tufts to finish in seventh place.

The Ephs’ men faced eighth-ranked Dartmouth. With a victory, Williams could move into the Potter Division of Nationals.  Unfortunately, only George Miller and Will Gruner earned victories for the Ephs.  In all likelihood, Williams will compete in the Hoehn Division at Nationals. Williams also lost to Cornell and beat Hamilton.

In women’s action, the Ephs beat Dartmouth 7-2, lost to Cornell 1-8, and defeated Hamilton 9-0.

Against Franklin & Marshall, the Lyons cruised to a 9-0 victory. In the number two and three matches, Mount Holyoke’s Vidushi Gurunada and Laura Robinson each only surrendered two points. Michelle Zagardo had the most dramatic match of the day.  She won her first two games against Franklin & Marshall’s Erin Jaffe; however, she lost the next two games.  In the fifth game, Zagardo rebounded to capture the match.

The Hamilton match was very close, but Mount Holyoke pulled out the 5-4 victory.  The Lyons’ top five players each earned victories to preserve the win.

With the latest College Squash Association rankings unveiled prior to the opening of the tournament, the teams were eager to prove the latest poll wrong. The Mount Holyoke Lyons, the highest-ranked team in the event, dominated the tournament going 5-0. The Lyons beat Colby and Hamilton.

Colby, Hamilton, and Tufts are tied for thirteenth in the rankings. Colby defeated Hamilton by a score of 7-2, while Hamilton beat Tufts 6-3. The three teams will most likely be separated in the next team rankings.

Wellesley defeated Connecticut College 6-3. Williston Northampton alumna and Wellesley number two player Ayako Kubodera lost 0-3 to Cara Flynn. Connecticut lost a nail bitter to Northeastern, 4-5.

To wrap up the tournament, Smith lost to Wesleyan, 8-1. The Pioneers’ number six player, Meg Oliverio, earned her second victory of the day.

After the match, Colgate drove across the river to Smith College. In an extremely close contest, the Pioneers lost 4-5. Kate Whitesell, Margaret Oliverio, Kelsey Radwilowicz, and Elizabeth Hughes each recorded victories for Smith. The number two match between Colgate’s Jenny Dorland and Smith’s Sara Smyth went to five games. Dorland emerged with a 10-8 victory in the final game.

SquashTalk.com’s announced article about the Liberty League selection stated that “Kollmer posted a record of 15-3 as she played at positions four through seven. Her 15 wins led all Hamilton players.”

In the Howe Cup (A Division), Williams lost its opening match to the University of Pennsylvania. The Eph’s number one player, Toby Eyre, lost to Kristin Lange in three games. Lange is on the cover of February issue of Squash Magazine for winning the US Junior Open Under 19 division.

Williams rebounded to beat Dartmouth 5-4. This was the Ephs first win against Dartmouth in six years! Toby Eyre (#1), Ashley Eyre (#2), Kate Whipple (#3), Jennifer Coxe (#4), and Ridhima Raina (#9) recorded the team’s victories. Raina was the sole victor in Williams 1-8 loss to Trinity. Mount Holyoke lost to Stanford 3-6 in the opening round of the Kurtz Cup (B Division). The following day the team beat Hamilton 6-3 to make it to the consolation finals, where they won 6-3 over Colby. The Lyons conclude the year in thirteenth place, which is Mount Holyoke’s best finish ever. (Mount Holyoke Press Release)

Pam Ankermann (#1), Menusha Hettiarachchi (#2), and Laura Robinson (#4) went undefeated in team play for the season. Ankermann and Hettiarachchi qualified for the individual nationals, which will be held in two weeks at the University of Pennsylvania.

In the Walker Cup (C Division), Amherst beat Connecticut College 9-0 and Franklin and Marshall 8-1 to cruise into the division finals. William Smith was too much for the Jeffs in the finals and beat Amherst 6-3. The team finished in eighteenth place. The Jeffs’ Caroline Shannon (#1) and Emily O’Brien (#2) each went undefeated during the tournament.

Smith competed in the Epps Cup (D Division). After defeating Haverford 5-4 in their opening match, the Pionneers lost to Wesleyan 2-7. In their final match, Smith lost to George Washington 1-8. The Pioneers finished in twenty-eighth place. Talia Williams (#3) won all of her matches at the tournament, including a five-game match against George Washington’s Cheslea Mouta. Lily Lorentzen, Standford’s number one and last year’s top player in the nation, will be tough competition for Mount Holyoke’s Pam Anckermann.
