Power Squash Academy Snowflake Tournament (Photos)

Western Mass was strongly represented at the event by players from Williams College, Smith College, and the Leisure League. Over 120 players competed in the event.
In the women’s 3.0 draw, Anne Bello lost to Rhonda Lake in the opening round (3-1). Bello went on to lose a four-game match to Hilary Becker in the consolation round. Smith’s Sara Smyth lost to Ashwini Bhandiwad (3-1) in the opening round, but then moved through the consolations by beating Smith College teammate Julia Voorhees (3-0). In the consolation finals, Smyth lost to Lake in four games. Smith’s Alice Resnickova beat Middlebury’s Olivia Kerr in the opening round of the main draw, before losing in the semifinals to Middlebury’s Brooke Farquhar.
In the women’s 4.0 draw, Smith captain Kate Whitesell lost to Jessica Tory. Whitesell went on to win the consolation finals, beating Dartmouth’s Elizabeth Weitraub in three close games.
Ben Quick started the tournament with a 3-1 win over Eric Asnis in the men’s 3.0 draw. Quick lost 3-0 to Middlebury sophomore Micah Wood in the next round and faced Williams’ assistant coach Blair Dils in the plate finals. Quick and Dils played to five games, with Dils ultimately taking the match.
Michael Bello, who lost to Quick in last year’s 4.0 plate finals, opened with a 3-0 loss to Williams’ Jeremy Herrmann in the 4.0 draw. After Herrmann won the first two games decisively, Bello battled back in the third, improving to a 6-9 loss. In the consolation, Bello faced Bernardo Feliciano of Topsham, ME, who won 3-0.
