Rochester and Williams to Play on Friday

Western Mass — In a surprising move, the College Squash Association announced on Monday that Rochester and Williams are to play for the right to compete in the Potter Division of the 2008 Team Championships. The match will take place on Friday at 9:30 AM at MIT. The winner of the match faces Trinity College at 4:30 PM, while the loser becomes the top seed in the Hoehn Division and faces Amherst College at 7 PM.

According to the Rochester website:

“The CSA announced on Monday evening that we were the eighth seed,” said Rochester Athletics Director George VanderZwaag. Rochester and Williams were grouped very tightly in the 8-9 placings. “As part of an appeals process, it was subsequently determined that Rochester and Williams should play for the eighth and ninth seeds.”

To date there have been four men’s team rankings. Below is a comparison of the rankings for Rochester and Williams:

  • February 8th: Rochester 7th, Williams 9th
  • February 1st: Rochester 7th, Williams 11th
  • January 25th: Rochester 7th, Williams 11th
  • December 12th: Williams 5th, Rochester 14th

According the the only individual rankings of the year, Rochester’s top three players are ranked 7th, 8th, and 9th in the country. Jon Barry, Williams’ number one, is ranked 37th.
