Senior Day at Smith

Northampton, MA — Today, Smith College hosted Wesleyan and Columbia on Senior Day. Smith College has five seniors graduating: Kate Whitesell (#1), Sara Smyth (#2), Huong Nguyen (#3), Julia Voorhees (#6), and Judy Liu (#7). During the introductions for the Columbia match, the seniors were honored with flowers.

In the first match of the day, Wesleyan proved too strong for the Pioneers. Smith lost 0-9, but senior Sara Smyth battled Wesleyan’s Gwynne Hunter in a five-game match.

The Columbia match was closer, but Smith lost 2-7. Columbia’s coach was unable to attend today’s match, so Amherst alum and current Columbia graduate student Ted Platt coached the team. Smith’s Elizabeth Hughes won the number nine match in three games over Columbia’s Danielle Jakob. Smith’s senior captain Kate Whitesell ended her regular season with a 3-0 victory over Anne Cheng.
